The COVID-19 pandemic is creating unprecedented development challenges in low- and middle-income countries. Artificial intelligence (AI) and data science are key tools to support public health responses to COVID-19. IDRC and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) are providing up to CA$10 million to support AI and data research and innovations in the Global South to assist the COVID-19 pandemic response and recovery.

Given the global challenges of managing the effects of COVID-19, the submission deadline for the David Hopper Prizes for Leadership in Research for Development has been extended to  April 29, 2020. The two CA$50,000 awards will be announced by the end of 2020.
