TTI Phase 2 Institutional Support: Social Policy and Development Centre (SPDC)
This funding will enhance the Social Policy and Development Centre's (SPDC) role as a credible public policy institution in Pakistan by strengthening its ability to provide high-quality, influential, and policy-relevant research.
About the Social Policy and Development Centre
SPDC is a non-profit policy research institute that provides independent reviews of social policies in Pakistan. SPDC's main areas of research are poverty, inequality, governance, provincial finances, gender issues, and macroeconomic policy. It receives its funding from the Think Tank Initiative (TTI).
Research, performance, engagement
TTI is a multi-funder program dedicated to strengthening independent policy research institutions, or think tanks, in developing countries. The program aims to enhance their ability to provide sound research that informs and influences policy.
This second TTI phase (2014?2019) will fund 43 institutions, helping them consolidate their role as credible development actors in their countries, and in some cases, regionally and internationally. For SPDC, this project will help enhance its research quality, organizational performance, and policy engagement.
Sound research, policy influence
Through this support over the next 4.5 years, SPDC is expected to
-significantly enhance its effectiveness on policy advocacy with policymakers, international stakeholders, advocacy groups, and development networks
-strengthen its presence and visibility at the national level, particularly in the capital city, Islamabad
-broaden its research scope
-enhance research quality and institutional performance by undertaking collaborative research on issues of common concern with South Asian regional institutions
-increase the awareness and capacity of government officials, particularly at local government levels, to improve research uptake for policy-making, particularly on gender and poverty issues
-diversify its resource base to achieve sustainability and stability.
